International Company Moving to Cherokee

ACWORTH — Vanderlande Industries, an automated material handling systems and service company, is relocating some of its operations to Cherokee County from Fulton County, officials from the Cherokee Office of Economic Development announced at Tuesday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.
Vanderlande will lease 95,000 square feet of space in southwest Cherokee County’s Northpoint Industrial Park, according to the Cherokee Office of Economic Development. The move will initially bring 12 jobs to Cherokee County.
The company plans to invest $150,000 in tenant improvements and equipment. The Cherokee site will be primarily used for distribution purposes, but Vanderlande has plans in place for a small assembly component as well.
The company hopes to begin normal operations in Cherokee County by January or early February.
Vanderlande, a Netherlands-based company, provides turnkey material handling systems for airport baggage handling and distribution, parcel and postal markets. The company is the world’s fifth-largest materials handling
supplier.
The facility Vanderlande will move to is owned by Atlanta-based MDH Partners.
“We are excited to have attracted such a strong international company to 240 Northpoint Parkway. Vanderlande is a growing company that plans on taking advantage of the expansion capabilities within our facility,” said Phillip Hight of MDH Partners.
Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented Vanderlande in their search for a facility and analyzed more than 30 buildings in four counties.
“Location is one of the many reasons we chose the 240 Northpoint Parkway building,” Matthew Middlebrook, manager of Vanderlande’s supply chain, said, noting the site’s proximity to Interstate 75 and the company’s main suppliers.
The Northpoint Parkway site is within the Southwest Cherokee Opportunity Zone, an area that qualifies businesses for extra tax incentives for jobs created.
“Vanderlande has recognized that our community is a great destination for business. This will send a message to other companies looking to expand or relocate,” Marshall Day, chairman of the Development Authority of Cherokee County, said.
Cherokee County Commission Chair Buzz Ahrens said he is pleased to see another international company locate in Cherokee County. “It is a testament to Cherokee’s ability to do business in the global marketplace,” Ahrens said.
“I am proud of our economic development team and would like to congratulate Vanderlande for choosing Cherokee as their home,” Post 4 Commissioner Jason Nelms said.
